Yes, the venting is along the back of the range. A range hood is not required. If you are in need of any assistance, have additional questions, or would just like to see our helpful tips, check us out on Twitter @LGUSSupport Facebook https://www.facebook.com/LGUSA/ ^CP
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A hood or downdraft may or may not be required, depending on local ordinance. Normally, if there is a cabinet (or microwave) above the range, a hood will be required to be at least 24 inches above (or higher) than the stove top. Depending on ordinance, a hood is not required if there is at least 36 (or 30, I can't remember) inches above the stove top. My local ordinance requires venting for newer homes (I don't know the year), but older homes do not, for the above-stated. Many local codes follow the national ASHRAE code 62.2 standard. Unfortunately, you can't read it without purchasing the code (stupid, I know). Call your local planning/building department. That's what I did when our downdraft JennAire oven died and all new downdraft ranges available to use were variations of the same one made by Whirlpool. I was pleased to find out I didn't need venting because we have an open kitchen with no place for a hood (i.e. it's open to the roof above our stove). Don't trust your vendor to know this. We were told the wrong information.
