This is most likely due to what netflux and hbo broadcast in. They dont have hardly any 7.2 surround that ive seen even uaing my xbox.

It's most likely in some auto mode depending on the network or what the movie, program, etc... was recorded in. I use a sound bar to get the full range of sound. It doesn't have to be cranked up, but it gives a full sound and control settings.
