“I have a Denon receiver AVR-X2500H. It appears it's maximum refresh rate that it will pass through is 4k at 60hz. That being the case is there any reason to get a 120 hz tv? Is it just going to strip out the additional 60hz?”

The 65SM8600PUA has a native refresh rate of 120Hz. That means that the image on the TV is refreshed 120 times per second. The TV supports 4K @ 60Hz. 4K is a feature of your A/V receiver that allows a video source to pass unaffected through his receiver to the TV without any processing. In order to transfer a 4K signal at 60 fps, receivers must be HDMI 2.0 compliant and HDCP 2.2 compliant.
