Both. Consumer Reports has a good set of pics of the back of the unit. It has 2 USB and 2 HDMI "sideways" and 2 HDMI, coax, ethernet, optic, etc "straight out" and further away from the edge of the unit. Therefore the sideways ports are closer to the edge for easier access.
