Yes, this drive is compatible with a Windows 7 PC. You will need a USB cable.

Please try again later.Hello JCB, The DVD writer should be a plug-in play as I didn't have to install any special drivers to get it to function on my Windows 7 Home Premium computers, Windows 10 Home computers. I am running on a 64-bit operating system (most people have 64-bit). You will not need any special cable as the cable that comes with it should be more than enough. I do use a USB 3.0 extender so I can have more flexibility with my own setup, but the cable that comes with it is a bit under 2 feet. Side note: There is great CyberLink software that comes with the Ultra slim portable DVD writer too which is an added bonus. I'd highly recommend getting the LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD writer!
