From the research I did about it I believe that your TV has to be a Smart TV and it has to have a HDMI input.

If you mean. Can you hook it up to your TV and play from it? NO, you can't do that. You can hook it to a laptop and hook the laptop to your TV and play if your laptop has a HDMI output.

The drive must be plugged into your computer, but with most current monitors and TV’s, you can then connect the monitor to your tv and watch CD’s and DVD’s on that. I’d suggest turning the monitor off so you don’t get your video on two devices at the same time.
