The LG 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Black, Model # SP80NB80, receives its power from the USB port it is connected to. It does not need to be charged. The drive has an LED Drive activity indicator, that shows when the drive is active. What type of CD disc are you trying to play, and does this happen for every CD you attempt to play? You can try using a CD/DVD lens cleaner to remove any dust or smudges that may be affecting the laser's ability to read the disc...^Ivan. You can check to make sure the CD is clean and not scratched. A dirty or damaged disc can prevent the drive from reading it properly.
