Yes, it does require a receiver for Klipsch 5.1 system. You will connect optical cable from Projector to Receiver. While playing you will select the appropriate input in your Receiver.

The projector has audio output. If you use a receiver when the the speaker of an external audio device is operating at the same time there will be an echo. ^Daphane

Projector supports both HDMI ARC and Optical for connecting to a receiver.
