• I was eligible for an upgrade on Verizon, and it went through as an upgrade for me yesterday. I hope this helps you

• I'd say it also works on an existing line providing you have an available upgrade. Mine was on existing and it worked out well. I had an available upgrade though and I'd recommend that you check that first to try and prevent any additional fees that they might charge you if you don't have one available.
