From my use it seems that the display is always lit. I find it easy to see and easy to use. Many of the settings requires that the door is open. I found out that the power level will not set before you have some time entered, but quick time start and add (30 second increments) from the front of the door directly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The panel isn't much ... are you referring to the digital read-out? The actual "panel" on right hand on inside of door is tricky to see, but I don't need a flashlight .... once you key in the election-code you want, the digital read-out does appear at right-hand top of microwave. Hope that helps ..... Jane
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The lit part is behind the door and shows the time. The buttons to select heating modes, etc. are unlit and behind the door. The way you use this microwave is you have the door open and select heating modes, time, etc. using unlit buttons. Then you close the door. Then you press start on the door. You can also add and subtract time using buttons on the door. There is a light on the inside that illuminates the food while heating. Overall, I find that it heats very well but you interact with it a bit differently that you may be used to.
