I would go with Optical since that is pure Audio connectivity and will keep things simple. The HDMI cable really needs to have a specialized connection on the back of your HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) which not all TV's have. See the link below for more details on that. In my opinion, if you are just trying to connect the sound bar to the TV for Audio, use the optical. Small cable and easy to hide. http://www.cnet.com/news/what-is-audio-return-channel-arc/
