We needed to have about 8 inches or the dryer won't start. I think it was because the vent got crimped and there was back pressure. Pulled it out a couple inches and works like a charm.

You need at least 6" behind the dryer for the aluminium tub.

Mine is about 24" from the wall.

The minimum clearance allowed at the back of the unit is 5" (12.7cm). Keep in mind that floor or door molding may increase the clearance allowance.
The depth of the unit with the door closed is 28 15/16" (73.4cm) and with the door open is 50 1/4" (127.5cm). You will also need a minimum clearance of 1" (2.54cm) at the sides for airflow and for ease of installation and servicing...IFV
