“How do I properly drain the hose/filter at the bottom of washer? I tried to drain it and when I removed the filter, water came pouring out all over my floor. Yet the tube appeared empty.”

Make sure the end of the drain tube is lower than the level of the washer. I used a shallow bowl to collect the water. It took several minutes to drain when I wanted to check the filter.
