Hi Fred. The LG Streaming 4K Ultra HD Hi-Res Audio Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Player - Black, Model # UBK90 is not a region free player. However, Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs are region-free and can play on devices that support Ultra HD Blu-ray, regardless of the region where they were purchased. For some reason, manufacturers have decided not to code 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs by region. In other words, if you have a 4K movie title, it should play in any 4K player, regardless of what country the disc came from. However, this is only true for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs...^IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. I was able to use discs from the UK and had no problem.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, this player is not region-free. However, according to the specs, the LG UBK90 can convert PAL to NTSC (and vice versa). This might account for the other commenter being able to play a disc bought in the UK. A European DVD would be PAL formatted but if it were region-free the North American UBK90 would be able to play it. Region-free capability would be even better, but most DVD/Blu-ray players sold in North America cannot play PAL-formatted discs at all. Note: PAL/NTSC conversion is only relevant to playing DVDs. It's irrelevant to playing Blu-ray discs. Also: most SD DVDs and HD Blu-ray discs are still regioned (i.e., unplayable in differently regioned devices). UHD discs (i.e., 4K discs) and players are, as of this date, all region-free, so any UHD disc should be playable in any device capable of playing UHD discs, even if those devices are still region-restricted with regard to playing SD DVDs and HD Blu-rays.
