• Unless it specifies otherwise, the HDMI port on a laptop or desktop is generally for output only, to mirror the screen (laptop) or provide additional workspace for your computer, and output audio (laptop or desktop). The exception is an ARC HDMI, where audio can travel in both directions. So connecting a player to a PC won't do anything, except possibly damage one or both devices. Ethernet signals can go both ways, but the ports are generally not for outputting from one device to another, but for communicting to and from both.
