yes! due to backwards compatibility built in. if you decide to purchase a new machine like 4k, yes, it will play olcer dvd. blue ray, not so sure. but I believe it will play blue ray too (4k units not standard dvd players).

I have found that the newer products DO play the older DVDs. At some point, though, I expect they will stop, forcing us to buy newer versions of our old classics!!
