A:Answer The LGDVT418 was a theatre system. The electronics piece that came with that set consisted of two parts (integrated into a single box): a DVD player and a receiver. A "receiver" is composed of three parts: a tuner (to pick up radio signals), a pre-amp (that switches between the desired inputs, i.e., DVD sound, AM radio, FM radio, a tape recorder (remember those?), etc.), and an amplifier (which makes the sound "louder," for playback through the speakers).
This DVD player could replace the DVD portion of the 418's electronics piece. To get the receiver functions, you need to buy a receiver. You can't use the receiver portion of the 418 because it only has what are known as RCA or digital audio inputs, and the DVD player you're asking about only has HDMI outputs. The receiver you need to purchase needs to have HDMI inputs.
You can't hook the speakers directly into the DVD player (which I think is a later question you ask). The speakers are connected to the receiver, and the DVD player is also connected to the receiver. You may not be able to use the speakers that came with the 418. They have a resistance that is lower than normal and could damage the new receiver. Consult with your salesman to determine if the 418 speakers are capable of being used with it.
