Are these noise cancelling? null

Not that I can tell Plus picks up ambient noise better than my voice according to people when I use the device while talking.

No, not active noise cancelling (a la Able Planet, Bose, etc). But it's noise isolating, meaning with the right size ear things, when these earphones are securely in place, you don't hear much outside sounds. To me it does a good job unless you're in a really noisy environment.

I barely hear anything else when I have them in. Even if the sound isn't on. It drowns out the whining of my coworkers

no. not active voice cancelling. if you get a good fit (or use custom moulded tips then you can get some pretty good noise reduction.
