• Yes an adapter is needed. The adapter is included with case purchase.

• this is not correct.. Even if you use any ear buds or headphones with a 3mm plug-in, it will not keep it from allowing water to enter it. This is why the adapter has the threading and the O-ring to ensure water will not enter. Hope this clears up any confusion!
