Lifeguard does a great job at waterproofing and you never know what can happen on the water so I would say get it.

You'll want to put your phone inside a plastic sealable bag for kayaking. I have had the phone on my while working outside in the rain and the phone got wet and still works. It does a great job of sealing the charge and headphone ports.
