This will not give you WiFi, it is a switch that distributes your internet signal to various devices via a wired connection. You will need an ISP, or Internet Service Provider, to supply you with an internet connection. From there, if they do not supply a router, (and most will supply it although you may have to pay a rental fee each month), you will need a WiFi router that can then give you WiFi.

Neither. It connects to an ethernet cable or patch cord. It expands a single connection to 5 total (4 additional devices). No WiFi, you would need a router for that function

You need WiFi for this. You plug in Ethernet from back of router to this and this allows you to plug multiple electronics into and gives them all internet

Colleen, wifi and ethernet are two different methods for communicating with your devices. We use ethernet for security because it is hardwired to our computers. Wifi utilizes radio frequencies, wireless. The speed of our Comcast connection to our laptop computers was improved by a factor of 2.5 over the wifi speed. We just acquired the latest Comcast box they call it a "Gateway." It has built in wifi and two ethernet ports. You must ask your cable provider about the equipment needed to allow you to receive cable TV, internet via wifi and ethernet. Ethernet cables and installation are usually additional costs.
