Hi. Yes, the Linksys RE6400 works with most wireless routers. All the things you mentioned can interfere with the signal and affect its range or stability.

It just switches from your wireless to the Linksys and you don't even know you switched. yes walls will limit the range. But it's pretty powerful I just got two of them for my house and we have one at work that I put in. You will love this Linksys 1200 make for sure it's the one that does meshing. Meshing just means that it's going to be the same name as your wireless router it won't be two separate names... p.s. I don't work for anybody so my reviews are real.
