I believe so. I was told since I live on my own and do not use several tablets/laptops/etc., it was unnecesary for me. But the instructions are clear that the nit needs to be plugged in an open space (i.e. hallway, wall with no obstruction for the signal to work. Again, ask staff as they are super knowledgeable.
