Hi. It depends on a few things: 1. Do you have a fireplace with rock/metal in your house? I do and, the signal will have a hard time traveling through it; not the unit's fault but my fireplace and placement of my access point. All brands I have used had a hard time with it and i get it. Same applies if you have a mirror or extra walls 2. Do you have cameras on the outside of your house (e.g. end of the garage? I do, so I have to get an extra base station) 3. The least I can get away with is 2 units on the main level and 1 unit on the second and one in the basement. Ideally, I would have 3 on the main though due to the impregnable fireplace.
