Any switch should work in any of the nodes to increase the number of available wired ports. I'd recommend a gigbit switch, though that's up to you.

I have a 5 port Netgear hub attached to one node of my system and the connected devices work flawlessly. Use the switch/hub of your choice.

I actually a TP-Link 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch plugged into one of the velop nodes in my home and have a TP-Link 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch plugged into another one in a different room. I have a hue bridge plugged in directly to my third node. I didn't have any problems with any wired device working properly right out of the box with the velop.

You can connect any switch to any port on any of the the nodes to provide additional ethernet ports to you other devices.
