I suppose you could use it as an access point, but I’m not sure why you would want to. The strength of this type of system is to provide a single solution for Wi-Fi. If you buy this system, you can replace your current router and I would expect you can also avoid relying on an extender. Mesh Wi-Fi is intended to be an alternative to the extenders.
