No, the first node needs an Ethernet connection to your modem/router. The other nodes are wireless, they just need an electrical outlet.

No. Each node is independent and acts like a single router. They automatically "mesh" together to simplify your networking needs. There will be only 1 node that is connected to the modem. You can plug devices into the other nodes (not connected to the modem) using a Cat5/6 cable to provide LAN connectivity for devices without WiFi capabilities.

Only one node is hard wired into router/modem. The rest will work wirelessly. Took me all of 10 minutes to install it throughout my home.

The Velop system is wireless except for the "parent" node which can be set up wireless or, in my opinion, should be connected to your modem via Ethernet cable for the best speeds and performance. The remaining nodes are connected wirelessly and do not need any cables other than an A/C power outlet.
