Per Linksys, because it uses a Tri-Band frequency, one of the bands is setup as a dedicated source of communication between all units (whether you have 2, 3, or more units) while the other two bands are open to communicate to your device(s). On wireless repeaters, repeaters usually only have 1-2 frequencies which limits the speed (halves it in most cases) which causes your significant decrease in download speed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There isn't a noticeable loss of download speed in my experience. I run 150/Mbps via Comcast and everything performs at that level on the 5Ghz band. The 2.4Ghz band gives me like 80/Mbps per device which isn't bad at all. Each node acts like it's own router and lessens the load. Repeaters and Mesh systems are NOT the same thing. This is one network with 3 nodes handling traffic vs 1 router and a repeater with half the throughput on it's own network. I highly recommend this if you are currently using an extender. Totally painless and performance is unmatched.

This is one of the values of a mess system that it works seamlessly and in Velop's case blazing fast speed throughout the whole system. I saw no slowdown or decrease in performance on any of my devices.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have experienced zero loss in speed. I was afraid of this too. I get 150 down and a full signal throughout my entire house. Before I had dead spots and slower speeds upstairs. Not an issue anymore. This is legit technology.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It depends on how good the system is that you have now. Speed loss is NOT supposed to happen with a mesh system like this one. But I found raw speed of my network dropped when installed Velop. Perhaps that was because I was using a fairly new high end wireless router. If yours is older, this will probably be faster. And speed should remain constant across the network. The nodes are not really extenders. The are essentially duplicates of the one attached to the cable modem. A single network is created with the same name and password covers the entire house. The main advantage of a mesh.
