To 'tatkinchem' and 'mrbill': This is not a satellite phone, it does not communicate via a satellite connection. It is a cellphone which communicates with cell towers in your area. Cell towers have areas of coverage, and they do not cover ALL areas. As noted in the great call reply, you might be on the edge of an area, or in a location that is not easily reached by the cellular signal such as a basement or inside a concrete building, etc... Many current cellphones include "WiFi Calling" which supports voice calls over WiFi in areas of poor cellular coverage. But not all cellphones support WiFi Calling. Unfortunately, it appears that the Jitterbug does NOT support WiFi Calling.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. How "good" is chocolate cake? I've had directv since 2003, I've had hughesnet internet service, too. Satellite reception is ALWAYS THE BEST except if it rains or snows really hard. And its not so good around those hours of the spring or fall equinox when the sun is directly over the equator in line with the satellite. Satellite reception is "GOOD" just like chocolate cake is "GOOD" The question should be "what do you want it to do for you?"

Service is based on the coverage in your area and even in a good coverage area, things such as weather, building materials, topography and other environmental considerations associated with radio technology also affect service and service may vary significantly within buildings.
