“Can the microphone and/or speakers be used without activating the camera?”

• Yes, the microphone only can be used. In your System Preferences / Control Panels, for "Sound > Input", you choose the Logitech Camera as the external Microphone Input. To deactivate the camera, put the shutter privacy down, or make sure the Logitech camera is NOT chosen as your input camera. This camera does not have built in speakers, you either use your computers built in speakers or headphones to listen during chat.

• Sure, I checked by starting Audacity and made a recording. I didn't even have to choose the mike in the camera as it was the only mike connected at the time. It worked just fine.
