It will pick up sound but not clearly at that distance. The camera does not have on board memory. It's a USB camera.

The camera does pick up sound very far away, exactly 18 feet I am unsure of but it will get close at least. The camera doesn't necessarily use it's own recording sequence, but it will support any amount of hours you would like to record via Logitech software. I've recorded 12-16 hour streams.
