Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The keyboard part detached and is extremely light weight. The case is sturdy and I use it without the case at least 2/3 the time. When I need the keyboard it magnetically snaps on and I am typing immediately. When traveling and I will need the keyboard. I attach it and close the iPad down on it like a laptop. I put it in my bag. If I want to watch a movie in the hotel bed I detach the keyboard portion. If I am watching a movie on the couch I detach the keyboard.

It's a single, integrated unit designed to protect the iPad and provide a typing surface. While you can flip the keyboard over to use the case as a stand without typing, the keyboard remains attached to the case. There's no option to completely remove it and store it separately.
