“Can the mic be taken off and switched to the other side? When I try and switch the headset itself to my right side, the mic is very far from my mouths”

No. The microphone is integrated into the left side.

I cannot change the mic to the other side and make it still work. It only works on one side.

No, the mic appears to be fixed, but the boom does rotate.
