Hi William, You do not have to turn your keyboard off. The K380 goes in to sleep mode. LaShonda from Logitech

Yes it does go to sleep. Which introduces a tiny issue that sometimes you might loose the first charactor when you first start typing in the morning, since it takes a second to wake up then auto paired with Mac... not a big deal though...
