“Is a PC needed? Can this control a smart tv directly, without needing a PC?”

• I was told it could although I did not buy mine for that reason, the sales person said that was one of it's features

• This keyboard includes a small device that plugs into one of the computer's USB ports, and that's how the keyboard communicates wirelessly with the computer. (It isn't Bluetooth. It's Logitech's proprietary wireless technology.) So I doubt this keyboard would work for you. Even if you have a USB port on the smart tv, you would still need driver software, which probably isn't available.

• If you have an Apple TV attached to the television you can use the magic keyboard.

• if your tv has Bluetooth then yes, this will work. your tv most likely doesn't though.
