it is the mouse's receiver and they're paired to a specific frequency; if your mouse has a reset button for a receiver, it may be able to find a new receiver, but I've never seen the receivers sold by themselves. Think about it - if any mouse worked with any receiver, one mouse would be able to control all of the computer cursors within 15 or so feet in an office area.
