“What is the distance from the mouse to the laptop that the mouse will work. Does it need to be real close to the computer or can I use it with a range of a few feet or more. What is the maximum distance?”

I just tried to see how far it worked. I have my laptop on my kitchen table, and went to the kitchen counter using this mouse about 12 feet or more, and it worked. I didn't bother backing up any more then that, but I'm sure it would have worked as well. Great mouse!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This a wired mouse. You could use a hub and usb cable extender to use far from the computer. Consider a wireless mouse, those easily work 15+ feet from their connected trasmiter.
