You need rechargeable AA batteries, not normal AA batteries. The flashing red means that the battery cannot be recharged via the cord (either because the rechargeable batteries are too old and thus dead or you're using normal AA batteries).

Try using other batteries, sometimes even new batteries are drained or not properly charged. If none of these work, you may need to return or replace the k800.
