• It’s doesn’t click but it doesn’t scroll freely. There is a detent at small intervals and it’s quiet. So it’s easy to know you are scrolling without the noise.

• It isn't totally smooth, it has a tiny click feel to it, but it's very very slight and doesn't make any noise. If you're worried about it being too difficult to turn, it's definitely not. If you're looking for the absolute ultimate precision, the clicks probably detract from that, but not by much.
