• Yes - the keyboard and mouse work independently. For one of the computers I use a different mouse with the keyboard it has no adverse affect.

• Yes, you can use the MX Vertical mouse with the MK540 combo. You'll just have to reconnect the mouse to the USB receiver for the keyboard. You can do that with the Logitech Unifying Software app. Here is the link: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025297913.
