I bought the Syntech USB C to USB Adapter(2 Pack), USB-C to USB 3.0 Adapter, Thunderbolt 3 to USB 3.1 Female Adapter OTG Cable Compatible with MacBook Pro 2018/2017. The adapter was about $9 and works very well. No lag time.
