• You have to use both together, that is why you are given the unique antenna to plug into your USB port.

• You don't have to use the mouse that comes with the MK550 and can use a different one with the keyboard. If your other mouse is a Logitech one that uses a Unifying Receiver---having an orange logo on it---than you can simply pair your keyboard to that mouse's receiver, but only if you use Logitech's Unifying software.
