“On the backside of bottom part of this HD 1080 unit there is placed for some kind of a piece to be screwed in. There is nothing in the package to indicate the purpose of this or a part that has to be screwed in. What is the purpose?”

• I’m on the road at the moment, but if I understand what you are inquiring about it is just a standard tripod thread — 1/4”-20 UNC thread pitch.
