Hey there Paul. The M650 has a ratcheted scroll wheel, so it should be tighter than that of the M325.

Yes, the M650 L scroll wheel has dentents. I use to have an M325 and it could change from detents to no dentents, just push down on the scroll wheel until you feel a click. I like dentents but carrying it around in my backpack, sometimes the wheel got hit and it turned off the detents - just had to punch the wheel to get them back.

You can adjust the scrolling settings by downloading the app on your computer and changing it's settings.

Yes, it does! It's scroll wheel is "smart", so if you spin it fast, it will spin semi-freely, but spinning it slowly will keep it "tight", as you put it.

I don't know what detentes are in regard to the mouse.  Do you mean detents?  The wheel is made of rubber and has detents. It does not feel especially tight, but it does not spin freely.
