“I just purchased an HP desktop, running on an intel core i5 with 16 gb RAM. However, the system does NOT have a separate sound card. Would there be a problem running these speakers with a setup like this or will the motherboard sound be overtaxed.”

• I would guess that the audio is on the motherboard. Check carefully for an audio output. If not obvious, contact HP.

• No you dont need a sound card.there should be sound card build in the motherboard.just plug it in very easy.
