Will the speakers work without the woofer? null

I doubt it since they plug into the woofer.

No, The Z323 speaker system is wired together and you will require the subwoofer. Although, you can adjust the bass from the dedicated knob on the back of the subwoofer. And essentially turn it off if you do not want to hear it.
