Basically the subwoofer doesn't count as an entire piece. So if you were to get a 6.1 surround sound system it would include 6 speakers and 1 subwoofer. So in a 2.1 channel set, you get 2 speakers and 1 sub which accounts for the .1 Weird I know, don't really understand why but that's how I've seen its advertised everywhere.
