This unit accepts an optical cable, which is how I have it connected to my PC. Optical cables digitally represent, via light transmission, the sound signals coming from the source. So the answer is yes, this speaker system is digital.

I have successfully tested this with a Sony PlayStation 4. If you need optical inputs make sure you buy the correct model number that features optical inputs in the product description.

When I tried to hook up the speakers to my tv using the rca's or the optical cable the tv remote will not control the volume. I called Logitech and they confirmed that. You would have to physically get up and change the volume on the speaker itself every time you needed to adjust the volume. No where in the description does it state that. I guess you would have to use the headphone jack which is not the optimal way to transfer quality sound from the tv to a set of quality external tv speakers.

Keep in mind that if you have a high quality DAC such as a sound card you will want to use the analog input instead for better quality sound. Otherwise the optical input will do nicely. Only for the Z625 model. There is also a Z623 model that is exactly the same but does not have optical input.
