Metal and it is Quality. It comes with a T-adapter, however others have suggested getting one with a shut off valve. You should get that before you install especially if you have little kids around.

Plastic. It’s heavy duty use your tephlon tape that came with it and don’t over tighten. I’m 51 and did it myself

Both a plastic and metal T are included. Connection is to the existing water line at the tank
