Magic Jack allows you to make phone calls over the internet. It does not use traditional phone lines. When you receive it, you have the option of either plugging it into your internet router *or* you can plug it into your computer. Then you plug your phone into the Magic Jack. When you place a call, the signal goes to the Magic Jack which converts it to a signal that can go over the internet. I am not sure exactly how it connects from there to a traditional phone service company. But it does. I think the call is routed to the Magic Jack company and it handles the routing.. One feature I like is that if you do not answer the phone, the caller can leave a message and the Magic Jack company will record it and email the recording as an attachment to an email. Nice!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Make sure if you're using your existing number that you have ported the number so that the number is connected to your MagicJack. From there, you have to follow the instructions to link your phone to the MagicJack and you should have access to the line at that point. Once the installation is done, go into your MJ account and make sure that you have it set up to receive incoming calls. I didn't do that at first so people were getting a message that the number wasn't taking calls. You have to choose incoming/incoming and outgoing/outgoing only so that you get the calls. If you're still not getting calls, MJ support can probably troubleshoot for you. They are very helpful.
